Filming!

We started filming on the 27th January, we had a few problems to begin with. As we were filming outside the art block we had children walking past getting to lessons and the noise from the bell. We had to wait until the lessons to begin to start filming again.
This part of the film was the opening introduction to our documentary.

31st January: On the 31st we wanted to have a run through of the  interviews to see how it would look, however the drama room was currently being used by the AS group. Due to this i went to write up a history script for Faraz to speak about after the title sequence. Nazir and Josh composed a questionnaire for people to fill in to gather information for people to fill in.

The second part of our filming on the 7th was filming for our interviews. This took place in the drama room at the Northwood Campus where we could use the lighting and dark room to give the interviews a professional look. We came up with 5 questions to ask the interviewees. The first interviewee was a student from North East Wolverhampton Academy, who didn't have any worries or have enough evidence to agree or disagree with the case of the illuminati

Jump Cut Techniques

Me and my group have decided to use the jump cut method, i think this will add a professional finish to the documentary we are creating. This and the subject (Illuminati/Freemason) will make the documentary more surreal.

This video is the first film to use jump cut, this shows the idea we have and how we want to use this technique.

Interviewees

We originally planned and set dates to film 3 interviews for our documentary these were with a student, actress and a professor or teacher. The group sent emails to local universities, we had one reply but the lecturer Dr Mark Jones of Wolverhampton University was unable to help as he didn't know much about the topic in general.

Subject: Inquiry For Documentary

Good Afternoon Dr Jones,

I am an A2 Media Studies student at The NEW Academy and my team and I are currently producing a documentary on the Illuminati. The purpose of this email is to enquire whether yourself or another lecturer would be happy to be interviewed with your views on the subject for our documentary.

Alternatively, if you have a contact of someone who is interested in the Illuminati conspiracy or could voice their opinion, it would really be of help.

My teacher, Zoe Lynch, is a former student of Media and Cultural Studies and she recommended that I contact you as you may have information or may be interested.

I hope you can help us in this matter.

Kind Regards,

Faraz Rafiq

Subject: RE: Inquiry For Documentary

Hi Faraz,

apologies for delay - I'm in the middle of marking and the start of the new semester.

I'm afraid I can't be any help. I only really have a superficial knowledge of the topic, and don't think I'd be any use in your documentary. I used to know one academic expert on the Illuminati, but I've discovered that he's now moved to the US. I've asked a colleague in History who has researched underground organisations, but he too has very little knowledge of either the original Illuminati, or the various groups since associated with it.

Good luck with your work, and sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Mark

Locations

Before filming me and my group used the Nikon D3100 to film locations, each video explains why we may use these locations and why.

Camera Change

My team have decided that the cameras we have previously used to create out AS task are not suitable for our documentary. We have decided to use a Nikon D3100(SLR), using these camera's means  we can edit videos off site with out using Mac's. The Nikon's also create a more professional look by changing the aperture and focus.

Using these more professional cameras it meant we could change the way light is used i.e. making things brighter or darker before editing. Nikon's also allow you to change aperture (amount of light hitting the lens)
making the image look distorted.
This video we made demonstrates the use of aperture.  Note the distortion and focus of the background.

Documentary Plan

Here is a brief plan of our documentary.

Opening Scene:
The first shot will be the presenter giving the audience an incite to what the documentary will be about and sort of things they can expect to see.

Second Scene:
The second shot will contain either a voice over or moving footage of the presenter talking about the history and why the illuminati was created. Here we may include archive footage of the creaters of the order and maps showing exactly were the order was created.

Third Scene:
We have decided that in the middle of our documentary we shoiuld include an interview(s) these would be with academics and the public so we can get both takes on the illuminati.
