Audience feed back!
For my newspaper i noticed that people viewing the advert found it hard to read as the text was overlaying the image. With the text and image being black it was hard for the audience to read the documentary title. With this in mind, me and my group went back to editing the newspaper. We firstly moved the text away from the image and made the text bigger, making it easier and clearer to read.

Finished Documentary
This is the final documentary, we have tried to keep to the original conventions of a documentary. We have used the jump cut technique, this technique is only used in a few documentaries i have seen in my research.
Editing the Documentary
Me and Faraz were left to do the editing whilst the other two group member did other things. Unfortunately I'm not to good with technology so big parts of editing was left to Faraz, i tried to help as much as i could with things to do with music trimming an transitions. I also helped to keep the quality the same throughout the documentary.
We first had to change the brightness and contrast of the footage we had recorded, this was due to the quality being distorted bluetoothing footage from laptop to mac. We tried just editing the distorted footage, however this was noticeable against none edited parts. So we decided to change all the footage's brightness so there would be no footage that stood out. We tried to keep each bit of footage the same contrast and brightness, i think we got there in the end. Even if it did take a while!
The next thing that we wanted to edit was the archive footage we tried getting off youtube, unfortunately we weren't able to do this due to copyright laws. So instead we used still images of music videos instead of the music and video. We had to edit these pictures so that they fit with the voice over perfectly. We had to edit the music by trimming it, changing the parts around, shortening it and making it fade out at the end of the image sequence. This in all took at least two weeks to complete as each image had to be cropped and just as we thought we had finished one image wasn't timed correctly, so consequently we had to start the process again as the images finished before the music.
We have edited the beginning of the documentary in the jump cut style. We both thought that this style would suit our documentary best as this techniques gives a mysterious feel to documentaries when being watched. I believe that the jump cut technique has added extra mystery to our documentary as you Dont see Faraz walk towards the camera but you dont see him walk down the steps he just appears infront of the camera to give insite of the documentary.

Music used for the Documentary film
Me and Faraz have decided that we should keep the same music running through out the film, this was so the music didn't become the main focus of the documentary. We made the music even quieter than the radio ad so that it could just be heard, we wanted the audience to focus more on what was being said and to view the images that were associated with the voice over.
after we created our documentary, we bot realised we didn't have any music for the beginning of the extract, we tried creating something on garage band, but with limited music available this was impossible to do. So we decided to use classical or opera. We started searching for music that could be used, we tried using music from Mozart as this kept to the Freemason/Illuminati theme. Unfortunately we didn't find anything suitable.
We needed something that changed tempo and dynamics, so we looked for composers that are considered the most intense composers of the 1800s. Composers such as Beethoven and Wagner.
As a classical musician, i have played many pieces of operas and classical music. And suggested using Richard Wagner's Overtures from his many operas. First we came up with this.

This has some of the techniques we were looking for, such as key change, dynamic change and tempo change. We both felt however that this music wasn't mysterious enough for the part we needed. We also need parts of music that were accented and powerful outbursts for when the "Illuminatum" title appears. I then suggested we try looking for music from the opera Götterdämmerung especially siegfried funeral march, has all the things we needed to finish the documentary.
We used garage band to cut the parts we needed out, we then used theses cut out parts to layered on to the moving image at the beginning of the extract.

Which paper will this be advertised?
I believe that this newspaper advert should be printed in The Guardian, The Sun and Metro. This would allow the documentary to gather audiences from both class backgrounds and different age groups. By advertising in the metro means it will catch people on the go as Metro is distributed on public transport, with our QR codes, twitter and facebook page also allows people to set reminders and do little bits of research just by scanning the QR code with their Iphone and look at facebook page using mobile internet.
This will also generate advertising as people can share the advert using these social networking sites.

Our Final Newspaper
This is the final newspaper ad. We tried 4 ads and asked people which one they liked, this was the most liked so we decided to create this one.
We need an image that represents the Illuminati so we researched symbolism and came up with a triangle. As the secretes of this organisation are become known and questioned i made the triangle become deformed using photoshop, this made it look like the organisation it's self was crumbling away.
The text was also thought through for quite a long time, we wanted something to represent the age of The Order Of The Illuminti. The text we used uses quite angular text so the "A" looks like a triangle, we decided to use this font for that very reason. It helps link the newspaper advert wi the topic.
The text used in this adverts is the same text used throughout our three tasks, the text was created using Dafont this site allows you to choose texts appropriate to documentaries, films and stories.
Conventions Of Newspaper Adverts
There are some convention f newspaper adverts that me and my group must stick too, these things are:
tell a story and to inform the audience what this documentary is about. Even if the Title was not at the bottom, the audience would still know that its about gun crime or violence.
This is a more powerful way to catch audiences eyes, than having lines of words dotted around the image, which people don't read when on their travels.
- Image- The image must be relevant to the subject being advertised.
- Logo- Of the company e.g. Channel 4 or Coca-Cola
- Slogans- Slogans don't necessarily have to be used, however these make the audience engage with the advert and are used to help the audience remember the ad.
- Description- The description is usually about the subject being advertised, such as films. For a film the description would be the cast, story outline and date released.
This advert for channel 4 uses some of the conventions of newspaper adverts. This ad uses the "4" logo, gives a brief description on the subject of the documentary "a season on the care system" It also uses an image that is tied into the title, however if i saw the image without the text i would have thought that the documentary was on something completely different. This shows how powerful the use of photography has become in advertisements.
This Newspaper uses the image to independently tell a story and to inform the audience what this documentary is about. Even if the Title was not at the bottom, the audience would still know that its about gun crime or violence.
This is a more powerful way to catch audiences eyes, than having lines of words dotted around the image, which people don't read when on their travels.
History of Newspaper Adverts
Newspaper adverts have been used since the late 1830's the first advert appeared in the french Newspaper La Presse. Newspapers introduced paid adverts so that they could lower prices of newspapers as a whole. Lower prices meant it could extend its readership and increase profits.
This is a coca cola advert from the late 19th Century, unlike newspaper adverts today the only text included in this ad is the company name and price. This ad doesn't try to convince people with text or slogans like the numerous ads we find day to day.
Painted portraits were still used in adverts as photography had just been introduced into to the newspaper industry, however this was an expensive technique to use so companies such as La Presse, and The Telegraph still used painted images.
By the 1930s painted images were changed to black and white photos, this was only possible due to technological advances in the production of photographs, this made it cheaper for newspaper companies to use.
More text was added into newspaper ads, slogans such as "Nothing is so Refreshing started to appear and the images were the main focus. Logos still appeared on adverts but were a lot small than the ads from the 1800s.
By the 21st century newspaper adverts started to decline in National newspapers due to advances in the Internet and TV channels such as Sky and ITV. Smaller companies such as The Metro and Express and Star still use newspaper advertising as major a income to keep the paper running. The most common advertisements to be found in these newspapers are more likely to be blockbusters in cinemas or exclusive television shows.

Finished Radio Advert.
We have finished the radio ad before the documentary as this was simple and quick to do, we had started constructing the documentary when we decided to record the voice over and edit the music. All that needed doing to the documentary at this time was to be editied.

Music for my Radio advert.
This morning me and Faraz worked on creating music to be used for our Advert. We both decided that as the music needed to be based on the subject itself. As a musician i know different types of genres and history of music. I suggested that the music should be choral, this fits in with the music which was around when the Illuminati was started in the 18th century.
This "Choral" genre is associated with religion, as many academics and the majority of the public believe that the Illuminati and the Freemasons are religions, i thought this would be a good way to tie this into our documentary.
I believe that this music gives the documentary are more mysterious feel, this isn't just down to the voices with the pieces, but the dull pedal notes which accompany the choral music.
The music which we created using garage band is choral music, this genre of music is mysterious as its written and sung in Latin which most people don't understand. The music we created was too overpowering, so we changed the volume levels and cut away at the piece3 of music so that Faraz's voice could still be heard when the two were layered together.

Promblems constructing the Radio ad
Whilst constructing the radio ad we stumbled on a few problems, one was the technology available. The micro phone we used to create the voice over only records in mono, meaning the voice only comes out of one speaker or earphone. This has caused the voice over to become echoed. If we had new equipment, this would have given the radio ad an even more professional sound.
We also had problems with students from other classes just wonder in and make noise, so we had to stop recording until they were dealt with and start the whole process of the voice recording again.

Voice over
Today we started on our voice over for our radio ad. We tried four different people reading the same script, then decided on the best and clearest voice. Then we thought we should use the same voice throughout the documentary and the radio voice over, as Faraz was the narrator for the documentary we though it best that he should do the voice over.

Most popular Radio stations!
1. BBC Radio 2 (14.3m)
2. BBC Radio 1 (11.7m)
3. BBC Radio 4 (10.8m)
4. Heart (7.5m)
5. Capital (7.0m)
6. BBC Radio 5 live (6.3m)
7. Classic FM (5.4m)
8. Kiss (4.2m)
9. Magic (3.9m)
10. Smooth Radio (3.3m)
This is the top 10 radio stations of 2011. If i had to choose any of these stations to broadcast my radio advert, i would choose Heart. This station is a huge commercial radio station which is divided in to small regional stations. I would also choose Classic FM due to the music side such as Beethoven and Mozart who are talked about in "Illuminatum" By using both of these stations to advertise i think we would get a mixture of ages, genders and social class to watch the documentary.
I believe my advert would have had more hits if it was a either a facebook advert or youtube advert. I believe this as radio is slowly losing its listeners, meaning smaller audience to catch.
Radio Research and history
Radio adverts are used all over the world nationally and locally on commercial stations, radio stations sold "spots" in exchange for money. This paid for radio presenters and existence of the station. Companies such as coca-cola sponsored radio station in 1950's America this was due to the presenters thanking sponsors live on air. Radio is still one of the best places to advertise as 95% if the population have listened to the radio in the past week. With the internet and apps it has made it possible for radio stations to be listened all over the world.
Me and my group have now started researching for our radio advert.
We have looked at a few adverts on youtube and the BBC and have seen similarities in both.

Technological Problems
We tried making a moving image to use for our title page, during the process we had a few problems with importing and exporting from different computer programmes. As I'm not advanced in using programmes such as Flash player, i let the other people in my group who new what they were doing to create the image.
The Scripts
As my group are creating a script, i didn't find it necessary to write a script. This was due to making the documentary flow and not be rehearsed. The only part which was scripted was the opening and the questions.

Masonic Lodge Visit
During my research i found that the Freemasons had ties and links with the order of the Illuminati, with this in mind i suggested that we should visit our local masonic lodge in Wolverhampton.
we wanted to get the view of someone who attends and is a part of the Masonic community, this will then give a balanced argument in our documentary
On the 28th of February we decided to travel to the lodge with specific questions we needed answers about, on arrival we met a member of thee Freemasons who was willing to answer some questions about the Illuminati and Freemasonry as a whole. Whilst we set up the camera the gentle man explained who he was. In fact he was J.B Rouse the Provincial Secretary Of Staffordshire. Being a high member of the lodge he was able to offer more information than we initially needed, the information he gave wasn't just on Freemasonry but about religion, speculation and ceremonies that take place in the lodge.
After answering our questions he gave us a guided tour of the Masonic lodge, he did ask however that we didn't film or take photos of the meeting rooms or store rooms. This was due to the fact some of us may become masons.
J.B Rouse gave us an incite into the rich and famous who were members of the Freemasons people such as The Duke of Kent, Mozart and The Archbishop Of Canterbury.

These two videos contain the whole interview we conducted at the masonic lodge. . As the whole interviews goes on for 15 minutes, we will have to decided which parts contain the important information/relevant information and cut it from the rest, this cut footage will be used in our documentary one interview.

Drop Out!
As we couldn't get an interview with a Dr from any university we decided to arrange an interview with an Religious Education teacher from The North East Wolverhampton Academy.
We decided to initially use Nikki Man as an expert due to her RE background, she also told us that she has visited many Freemason Halls and attended many in Italy and other countries.
We set up an interview with her this afternoon, however i received an email from Nikki this morning saying she couldn't be apart of the documentary, i found this a bit odd as she didn't explain why.

hi mat,
i am so so so sorry but I'm going to have to drop out from the documentary. I feel really bad for letting you down at such short notice but i hope you will understand that i wouldn't do so without good reason. Please don't kill me!
thanks for your understanding,

Problems with filming!
During the filming of our introduction we had a few problems with a few things, as we were using the exterior of the school, bells and children were major problems. Just as we started filming the bell rang for the end of lessons so had to cut and wait for the children to get to there other rooms. This meant we wasted at least 20 minutes of filming.
During our interviews which we set up in the drama room, we had year 7 keep knocking the door or just walking in meaning that we had to stop filming again and wait for them to leave. This meant that we could only fit two interviews in a filming day as the interviewees either had lessons or were teaching.

Filming!
We started filming on the 27th January, we had a few problems to begin with. As we were filming outside the art block we had children walking past getting to lessons and the noise from the bell. We had to wait until the lessons to begin to start filming again.
This part of the film was the opening introduction to our documentary.
31st January: On the 31st we wanted to have a run through of the interviews to see how it would look, however the drama room was currently being used by the AS group. Due to this i went to write up a history script for Faraz to speak about after the title sequence. Nazir and Josh composed a questionnaire for people to fill in to gather information for people to fill in.
The second part of our filming on the 7th was filming for our interviews. This took place in the drama room at the Northwood Campus where we could use the lighting and dark room to give the interviews a professional look. We came up with 5 questions to ask the interviewees. The first interviewee was a student from North East Wolverhampton Academy, who didn't have any worries or have enough evidence to agree or disagree with the case of the illuminati

Jump Cut Techniques
Me and my group have decided to use the jump cut method, i think this will add a professional finish to the documentary we are creating. This and the subject (Illuminati/Freemason) will make the documentary more surreal.
This video is the first film to use jump cut, this shows the idea we have and how we want to use this technique.

Interviewees
We originally planned and set dates to film 3 interviews for our documentary these were with a student, actress and a professor or teacher. The group sent emails to local universities, we had one reply but the lecturer Dr Mark Jones of Wolverhampton University was unable to help as he didn't know much about the topic in general.

Subject: Inquiry For Documentary
Good Afternoon Dr Jones,
I am an A2 Media Studies student at The NEW Academy and my team and I are currently producing a documentary on the Illuminati. The purpose of this email is to enquire whether yourself or another lecturer would be happy to be interviewed with your views on the subject for our documentary.
Alternatively, if you have a contact of someone who is interested in the Illuminati conspiracy or could voice their opinion, it would really be of help.
My teacher, Zoe Lynch, is a former student of Media and Cultural Studies and she recommended that I contact you as you may have information or may be interested.
I hope you can help us in this matter.
Kind Regards,
Faraz Rafiq

Hi Faraz,
apologies for delay - I'm in the middle of marking and the start of the new semester.
I'm afraid I can't be any help. I only really have a superficial knowledge of the topic, and don't think I'd be any use in your documentary. I used to know one academic expert on the Illuminati, but I've discovered that he's now moved to the US. I've asked a colleague in History who has researched underground organisations, but he too has very little knowledge of either the original Illuminati, or the various groups since associated with it.
Good luck with your work, and sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Locations
Before filming me and my group used the Nikon D3100 to film locations, each video explains why we may use these locations and why.
Camera Change
My team have decided that the cameras we have previously used to create out AS task are not suitable for our documentary. We have decided to use a Nikon D3100(SLR), using these camera's means we can edit videos off site with out using Mac's. The Nikon's also create a more professional look by changing the aperture and focus.
Using these more professional cameras it meant we could change the way light is used i.e. making things brighter or darker before editing. Nikon's also allow you to change aperture (amount of light hitting the lens)
making the image look distorted.
This video we made demonstrates the use of aperture. Note the distortion and focus of the background.

Documentary Plan
Here is a brief plan of our documentary.
Opening Scene:
The first shot will be the presenter giving the audience an incite to what the documentary will be about and sort of things they can expect to see.
Second Scene:
The second shot will contain either a voice over or moving footage of the presenter talking about the history and why the illuminati was created. Here we may include archive footage of the creaters of the order and maps showing exactly were the order was created.
Third Scene:
We have decided that in the middle of our documentary we shoiuld include an interview(s) these would be with academics and the public so we can get both takes on the illuminati.
